Engagements
My boyfriend and I have had a few talks about our futures, and we both agree that our relationship has some real potential. But we agreed to hold off on getting engaged until we’re done with school and are financially stable. Bottom line, we love each other and are willing to do whatever we can to make our relationship the best it can be.  However, it is easy to become distracted from this...

My Most Recent Read
Is a book of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speeches, I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches that Changed the World. It is astounding how relevant his words still are. There is still so much oppression in the land of the free, and his words still offer so much hope for true, universal equality.

Amendment One
Under this newly passed piece of garbage, unmarried victims of domestic assault will no longer be able to press domestic assault charges on their partner, since that would involve the government recognizing their union. Speaking as someone that grew up in a home with an abusive father, this scares the crap out of me; but I know the main point of Amendment One is to prohibit same-sex marriage.  ...

I Saw "The Avengers" Today
And it was amazing! I love a good action movie with excellent acting, a killer plot, and a soundtrack that gives me goose bumps.  Chris Evans’ ass was quite enjoyable, as well. Captain America, indeed…

Good Lord, You Can't be Serious
I just saw a bumper sticker that read “Let God Plan Parenthood”. Seriously? Yes, I am a Christian.  No, I do not believe religion should ever be used as a weapon to undermine a woman’s right/ability to control her own body, and I find that bumper sticker insulting to my identity as both a woman and a Christian. In the words of Charles Swindoll, “I trust God for safety in...

Grades
Final grades for the semester were posted yesterday. And the verdict is… Three A’s and one B!  Not too shabby, if I may say so myself. That was my goal for the semester, and I feel like a champion for accomplishing it! Also, one of my professors emailed me personally to tell me that my final portfolio for her class was fantastic, she would gladly write me a recommendation, and I...

One of My Dream Jobs:
be a teacher in the Middle East.  “You won’t allow me to go to school.  I won’t become a doctor.  Remember this: One day you will be sick.”   ~Poem written by an 11 year old Afghan girl

My Mom has Cancer
Well, actually, she might not.  She has undergone months of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation and suffered all the side effects you can think of.  She had a CT scan last month to see how she responded to treatment, and the scan came back clean. The doctors couldn’t find any sign of the cancer.  There will be another CT scan this Tuesday. If it is clear again, Mom will be one step...
